Travel & Stay
A quick guide to getting to Villa Lungomonte, where to stay, and what to explore nearby.
At a glance
The wedding weekend will take place at Villa Lungomonte.
The villa is in Asciano Pisano, just outside Pisa. Pisa will be the easiest nearby city for arrivals, taxis, and trains.
Getting there
Flights
Pisa is the closest airport, but Florence, Rome, and Milan can also work well depending on your flight options and travel plans.
Pisa
This is the easiest airport if you can find a good flight. It is smaller, so there may be fewer direct options or higher prices.
Florence
Florence is a great option if you want to spend time there before or after the wedding.
Rome
FCO is the largest airport in Italy, so you are more likely to find frequent international and direct flight options.
Milan
MXP is one of the largest airports in Italy, so you may find frequent international and direct flight options.
Pisa to Villa Lungomonte
Taking a taxi is the simplest option. If you're flying into Pisa, there is a taxi stand at the airport.
Otherwise, we highly recommend downloading and setting up appTaxi, which lets you request a taxi to your location like Uber.
There is also a bus from Pisa to Asciano Pisano, but it doesn't run super frequently and we haven't tried it yet.

Travel tips
A few helpful notes
Check your passport early
Make sure your passport is valid well beyond your trip dates and has blank pages available. If it is close to expiring, renew it sooner rather than later.
Bring the right plug adapter
Italy uses different outlets than the U.S., so bring a European/Italy travel adapter. Most phones, laptops, and camera chargers only need an adapter, but double-check anything like hair tools before plugging them in.
Set up your phone before you go
Check your international phone plan, eSIM options, or roaming settings before landing. Having data right away makes airports, trains, taxis, and translation much easier.
Download offline maps
Save Pisa, Lucca, Florence, and the villa area in Google Maps before you leave. It makes trains, taxis, and wandering around much less stressful if service gets spotty.
Keep a little cash on hand
Cards are widely accepted, but it is still helpful to have some euros for taxis, small cafés, tips, bathrooms, or the occasional cash-only spot.
Trains are easy, but read the ticket details
High-speed trains usually have assigned times and seats. Regional trains are more flexible, but always check the instructions in your ticket or app before boarding. Also make sure to validate your ticket before boarding. Physical are validated at kiosks at the station, and virtual tickets and validated through the app.
Validate train tickets
Make sure to validate your ticket before boarding or you could be fined. Physical tickets are validated at kiosks at the station, and virtual tickets and validated through the app.
Pack lighter than you think
You may be carrying bags through train stations, cobblestone streets, stairs, and small hotel entrances. A smaller suitcase will make the trip much easier, and anything you're missing can be bought when you arrive!
Comfortable shoes matter
Italy is best explored on foot, and many streets are uneven stone or cobblestone. Bring shoes you can comfortably walk in for hours.
Meals are usually a bit later
Breakfast is typically light and dinner often starts later than in the U.S., with some restaurants not opening until after 8pm. Keep snacks around for travel days or long gaps between meals.
