Milan
Milan is a northern Italian city known as the country’s financial and fashion capital. It blends historic landmarks with a modern, cosmopolitan energy. Highlights include the Duomo di Milano, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and world-famous art like The Last Supper. Beyond the major sights, Milan offers great shopping, vibrant neighborhoods, and an excellent food scene.
Getting to Milan
By Plane:
Milan has two main airports: Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and Milan Linate Airport (LIN). From Malpensa, you can take the Malpensa Express train to central Milan (about 40–50 minutes). Linate is closer to the city center and is about a 20–30 minute taxi or bus ride.
By Train:
Milan is a major rail hub with several stations, the main one being Milano Centrale railway station. High-speed trains connect Milan to cities like Florence, Venice, and Rome, making it one of the easiest cities to reach by rail.
By Car:
Not recommended. Milan has a restricted traffic zone and heavy traffic. Parking can also be difficult and expensive, so it’s usually easier to rely on public transportation.
Getting Around Milan
Milan has an excellent public transportation system that includes metro lines, trams, and buses. The metro is the fastest way to get around, while trams are a scenic way to see the city. The historic center is walkable, but distances between neighborhoods can be larger than in smaller Italian cities.
Where to Stay in Milan
If your goal is to have a classic Italian village experience, Milan may not be the best fit, as it’s a large, modern city with a very different atmosphere.

If, however, you’re looking for convenience, shopping, dining, and easy transport connections, Milan is a great choice. It offers a wide range of hotels and neighborhoods, from historic areas near the Duomo to more local districts like Navigli.
